Mobile Photography

Mobile photography is getting popular these days. It’s more like snap on the go. And when there are so many high-quality camera-featured mobile phones at your arm’s length, you might want to give it a try.

But there are certain things you need to know before you take your smartphone out of the pocket. The default setting will not generate images that you cherish for. Like your professional camera, you need to set the functions according to your requirements.

However, mobile photography is, like any other camera, not depended on technology only. Your effort, as well as creativity, will reveal the finest of the outputs. Let us explore 7 mobile photography tips to leverage your photography charisma to another level.

Mobile photography tips

  1. Take a look with your own eyes before you release the shutter

Photography is not all about looking through the lens. Quench your eyes’ thirst first. With bare eyes, observe the scenario and your subject.

Then determine what to focus and what to objectify. When cleared, look through the lens and guess what’ll come after you press the shutter button. Get closer to the subject matter and with emotions, hear what it has to offer.

  1. Don’t lose the light

An in-depth photo is largely dependent on the availability of the lights. It could be natural or artificial. Well, they do have different appeals on the subjects, but your ability to manipulate the light is important in capturing mesmerizing photos.

Whatever you do, do not let the light vanish since the mobile phone camera doesn’t offer a very powerful flash. Today there are some cameras offering better quality outputs at low light. Well, it is somehow useful, but not completely satisfactory.

Different times in a day present a different light pattern and it is wise to observe the subject at different lights if possible so that you can get the best of it. However, you can obtain that effect in post-production. But as a true photographer, post-production should be the last choice.

  1. Zooming is killing the photo

Digital zoom is not recommended when you are using a mobile phone. Try to get closer instead.

Moreover, you might discover something new if you get close enough. And sure, you can crop and zoom the photo in the post-production. Zooming will hamper the quality and in the worst case, you’ll have to delete the photo.

  1. Remain steady

Movement is not good for mobile photography. Well, it is also harmful to any sort of photography. Even the mighty DSLRs give birth to blurry photos if you move your device while taking a shot (forget exception).

To remain steady, you can use a tripod or monopod. Nowadays there are many gadgets available for stabilizing the phone and you can find them in the market at reasonable rates.

Use a tabletop or even someone’s shoulder if you don’t have a stabilizing device present.

Mobile photography rules

  1. Never hesitate to take multiple shots

Mobile photography usually doesn’t take much space and therefore, never limit your snapping attempt to one or two.

Take multiple shots at a time. Well, even you were satisfied with already taken a shot, take a few others. It might sound insane, but you have the option to delete them almost instantly.

Multiple shots will help you isolate the bests from them.

  1. Take care of your lens

A gloomy glass won’t let you shine when you are really passionate about getting the best shot. So, take care of your camera and especially the lens. Clean it properly. Use soft cloths and don’t let dust party on it.

Taking care of your camera may sound unusual for a mobile-based camera is almost beyond your reach to take care of. Here, third-party applications can do that for you which I’m about to discuss.

  1. Third-party apps

Nowadays you’ll get numerous apps offering customized camera settings for better pictures. Some even allow basic editing, including retouching, color adjustment, fixing ISO and many others.

However, you have to pick the right application since a majority of them don’t offer professional-level service.

Just search Google play store or iPhone app store and you’ll find plenty of them. Surprisingly, the quantity will blow your head just away.

Some say mobile photography doesn’t suit the professional. Well, I say, carrying a DSLR doesn’t make you a professional photographer unless you are capable of the most extraordinary out of an ordinary thing.

So, forget devices and pay attention to the passion you follow. Since mobile phone photography is something like- the show must go on, prioritize your innovative mind to do the best.
